Welcome to
Inner Bark Healing Centre
Realized
benefits
Inner Bark
Healing Centre is a mobile healing centre for rental to the public. It makes a great addition to a work
or church retreat, teachers' days, conference or gathering.
Its been called Inner Bark
Healing Centre because of the metaphoric similarities between a tree's inner and
outer bark and our inner and outer selves. The inner bark of the
tree is the part that eventually transforms into the outer layer of the bark, transmits
nutrients to the tree, such as sugars, and is where the growth of the tree
comes from. It is usually very different in texture from the textured
outer bark that forms the outer protection skin for the tree. Growth and
healing comes from taking time to nurture our inner selves. It is
important in our busy lives to find opportunities to retreat. Inner
Bark Healing Centre provides such an opportunity.
Inner
Bark Healing Centre began as a free community service to the mental health
consumers of Halifax Regional Municipality. Participants quickly
actualized the stated intended purpose of the centre which is to give people
the unique opportunity to:
-
rekindle
their innate ability to heal themselves and nurture the spiritual aspect
of their being
-
participate
in activities that promote inner peace and a state of mindlessness
(meaning a mind quieted from daily stressful thoughts)
-
reconnect
with their spiritual selves in an atmosphere of respect, quietude and
deep groundedness
-
co-create
an environment of sacredness
In the first year that IBHC
(2007-08) opened it was clear right from the start that
those who accessed the service benefited greatly by:
-
experiencing a chance
to create, and take home, something that was beautiful to look at (mandala coloring)
-
reached levels of
relaxation that helped to improve over all health
-
felt like part of a
special community
-
respected and accepted
responsibility for co-creating a sacred space
Outlined below
are the main elements of this mobile healing centre:
Gaia
- the labyrinth
Gaia was born
in May, 2007. She hold within her a lovely peaceful, rejuvenating energy
that grows every time she is used. She is a portable sacred Cretan 7
circuit labyrinth over 20 feet wide. In good Canadian fashion, her
pathways have been created using blue hockey tape. The pattern has been laid
out on plain broadcloth and amazingly when folded up fits into a large
beach bag. Those who have walked her path find her calming and tend to gain great insight into their issues or
questions when used as a problem solving tool.

Above is a
picture of Gaia. Gaia holds a living energy within her that I
notice every time I open her up for use. She seems eager to always be of
assistance and is always welcoming.
She was
created with the intention of bringing harmony and healing to whomever
walks her path.
Labyrinths are
not mazes and you cannot get lost in them. They are therapeutic in
nature and are considered a form of walking meditation. For more
information about the mind-body-spirit benefits of walking a labyrinth, or
to find one in your area, please visit the links at the end of this page.
Special
thanks to my fellow energy colleague Kathy Roy for guiding the
creation of Gaia.
Mandala
coloring
As children we
colored to amuse ourselves. As adults coloring mandalas can bring
healing to the mind, body and spirit. There seems to be have a
transformative power that comes from creating something beautiful while
doing a simple task, like coloring. It allows a person to access their
inner sanctuary of peace and acts like a reset button on the computer.
It dispels negative energies (such as anger) and helps to alleviate worries
and stress. I have discovered first hand that the therapy is
incomplete without a good smattering of glitter glue to spice up one's
masterpiece! Therefore, an ample supply is kept on hand!
I have chosen
mandalas designed by Clare Goodwin because of their unique and
spiritual aspects. They meet a variety of tastes and mood and some
include sacred geometric shapes which have their own healing
properties. For those wanting to make their own mandalas, supplies are
available as well. The picture below shows a typical table set and ready to
go for multiple creations.

information about mandala coloring explore the links at the end of this
page.
